James Timothy "Tim" Daly (born June 1, 1956) is an American actor, director and producer who portrays Henry McCord on Madam Secretary. Daly is known for his television roles as Joe Hackett on the NBC sitcom Wings, Pete Wilder on Private Practice, and Superman/Clark Kent in Superman: The Animated Series. For his recurring role of the drug-addicted screenwriter J.T. Dolan on The Sopranos, Daly was nominated for an Emmy Award.
Daly was born in New York City, the only son and youngest of four children of actor James Daly (1918–1978) and actress Mary Hope Daly (née Newell; 1921–2009). He is the younger brother of actress Tyne Daly, and the father of actor Sam Daly. Daly attended The Putney School, where he first began acting. He began his professional career while a student at Bennington College in Vermont, where he studied theatre and literature. He graduated from Bennington with a B.A. in 1979, and returned to New York to continue acting.
