Biography[]

Early Life[]

Stephanie "Stevie" McCord was born to Elizabeth and Henry McCord. She has one younger sister, Alison McCord, who is four years younger than her, and one younger brother, Jason McCord, who is six years younger than her.

University / Career[]

She attended Lovell University until she quit halfway. She was against a policy change at the university and was detained by the university security because she organized a protest against the university in regard to the policy change. Part of the reason she quit university is due to the fact that her fellow peers began treating her differently as her mother becomes the US Secretary of State. Her detainment caused a PR issue for her mother. Because Stevie was kept out of the media spotlight many press organizations joked that she was mysteriously born 19. Fringe conspires theories formed over her origins but they faded as the news cycle moved on.

She moved back in with her parents in Washington, D.C. and she started working as a hostess at Frank's Steakhouse, a high-end restaurant. At one point, her father thought she should think more of what she wants to do with her life and possibly go back to university. She started working for Micro-loans United to try to find her passion. She was offered an internship with the program. Since it was an internship for course credit she was initially unable to take it. She ended up applying for Georgetown University in a bid to work for Microloans United.

After Georgetown, she wanted to study law at Harvard University and asked Russell Jackson for a letter of recommendation. Near the end of Season 3, she decided not to pursue a law degree. During Season 3, she began interning for Russell Jackson after she saved his life by performing CPR on him. He offers her an internship, and she accepts.

One night while Dmitri Petrov was visiting Henry McCord's home he met Stephanie McCord. Stephanie was about to go to the opera with her then fiance, Jareth Glover. Later Dmitri encountered Stephanie by chance at a convenience store. Stephanie has just left a fight with Jareth and seemed to have a mutual attraction with Dmitri, who she knew at the time as Alexander.

Stevie and Jareth's relationship deteriorated and they eventually split.

Eventually Dmitri and Stevie fell in love and had frequent rendezvous at the Potomac Lodge. After his cover was compromised and Russia found out where he lived, Dmitri was forced to move to Alaska for three years. Dmitri and Stephanie were forced to part ways. As they parted they joked that, "They would always have the Potomac Lodge." But, while in exile Dmitri still harbored feelings for Stephanie.

In Season 4 episode 20, a reporter that is shadowing Madam Secretary joins the McCords for dinner and inquires about how Stevie got her internship. He implies possible nepotism which freaks Stevie out and makes her highly defensive. Dr. McCord has to explain to the reporter that she grew up with an ethics professor so she is sensitive to charges that she is working the system.

In season 5 episode ”E Pluribus Unum,” Stevie sought a career change and snuck out of her internship during lunch for an interview with a Congresswoman. Although she gets offered the job, Russell's wise secretary, June, warns her to be careful and to get poached by someone better - that they selected her because of her connections to Russell and Madam Secretary. Stevie angrily snapped back, “Women of your generation didn‘t necessarily learn to be comfortable with ambition . . . Otherwise, we just all get stuck serving powerful men.” Later, a bomb hits the Oval Office severely injuring Stevie and killing June. As Stevie recovers in the next episodes, she regrets her words, her inability to see all the hidden accomplishments June and other women made, and comes to an epiphany that she was too self-centered.

Her mother was elected President and sworn in on January 20th, 2020. She is the current First Daughter of the United States and her internship with Russell Jackson ended after the Dalton administration because he retired. In the 6th season, she had a job at the Human Amnesty Association.

Dmitri Petrov and Stevie started dating again in season 6. They soon both proposed (at the same time) to each other. In the sixth season, the couple searched for a wedding venue and found a rustic one that they both liked. However the wooden furniture in the venue was flammable and the venue burned down before the wedding. The venue burned very soon before the scheduled date and guests had already began arriving. The only locations that could be secured for Stevie's mother, President McCord, in time were, Mt. Weather a windowless nuclear bomb shelter, Camp David which was at the time infested with mosquitos, or the White House. Stevie wasn't very fond of the White House because she knew it would politize her wedding. But she didn't want her mother to be absent, and when the Equal Rights Amendment came into discussion Stevie wanted to use her wedding to sway votes for the important issue. Dmitri and Stevie got married at the White House in the series finale. Former President Conrad Dalton officiated. (6x10).
