While Elizabeth works to successfully broker a peace treaty between China and Japan, a Chinese student seeking political asylum threatens the deal. Meanwhile, tensions rise at home between Alison and Stevie during Alison's sleepover party.

Summary[]

  • China and Japan both claim ownership over islands that have gas underneath it. Bess tries to impress Russell with it and he says "fine". She breaks down a bit and says they haven't been sleeping for 4 days. White House will arrange the signing at 3pm. The entire team is a mess.
  • Bess attends the memorial services of George. Director Munsey gives a moving speech. Bess meets with her two CIA friends (including Isabelle).
  • Fu Xinpei declared she wants political asylum. Daisy brings it up and asks if she's being paranoid.
  • Minister Chen brings up the girl. He says that he won't sign unless she promises to return the girl. He walks away with his team.
  • Jackson says China always wanted out of the treaty.
  • Fu Xinpei arrives at a home. She says that her mum knew that she was going to do the asylum bid. The Chinese authorities find her mum. Her mum tries to run.
  • A lady from Michigan with an adopted Chinese daughter. She thinks they are biological sisters.
  • Fu Xinpei developed an eye tracking system for quadraplegics. Madam Secretary goes to Xinpei and asks her to help her build a case.
  • Turns out Nadine and Marsh were having an affair.
  • DNA results say 97% match. Madam Secretary says that she will deny asylum.
  • Apparently Xinpei's mother (Fu Xinwan) died in police custody. Minister Chen and Bess have a talk. He says that the country does not punish the children for the sins of their parents. He says that they are already moving Ballistic missiles to the coast just in case "the Japanese are going to do anythign stupid, like plant a flag on the island".
  • Alison's having her friends over for a party. Stevie comes home and complains about the Texan senators treatment of her at the restaurant where she works. One of Alison's friends says that the Texan senator is a family friend and smart. Stevie and friend get in an argument. Alison goes all mean on her sister and calls her a hostess.
  • Bess and Xinpei have a cry on the Lincoln steps.
  • The treaty gets signed. The Texan senator looks on disapprovingly.
  • When Daisy confronts her. Bess tells Daisy that Xinpei wants to go back. Xinpei asks Bess if she's mad at her wanting to go back.
  • Bess gives a speech for Marshall's funeral.
  • Jackson told Bess that "the bastard" Marshall was going to run before he died, "stabbing the president" in the back.
